BT names Winners in Super-fast Broadband Community Hub Race

BT finally revealed the names of the six communities that will receive a super-fast broadband hub by the end of 2012.

Baschurch in Shropshire, Blewbury in Oxfordshire, Caxton in Cambridgeshire, Innerleithen in Tweeddale, Madingley in Cambridgeshire and Whitchurch in Hampshire six communities are promised download speeds of up to 40 megabits per second by the end of 2012, according to Ft.com.

Allthough great news for those successful communities, it still leaves hundreds of thousands of people in rural communities in the UK without adequate provision.

The contest will have given BT a good indication of where the most profitable communities lie.

However it will have also underlined the limited capacity of the former monopoly to provide universal coverage or community broadband hubs today.
